- A better understanding of the Organization’s goals and objectives and how international police cooperation is organized

- A framework to enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments, thereby developing skills which are useful for their career and future employment
- Experience of working in a multicultural, multidisciplinary and multi-ethnic environment, contributing to the development of mutual understanding, trust and tolerance

As of 1 January 2025, the internship allowance is EUR 700 and a transport subsidy of EUR 30 per month. An additional housing subsidy of EUR 170 per month will be provided to eligible interns.  

 

Interns are required to be subscribed to a health insurance coverage for the entire duration of the internship. However, they are eligible to request enrolment in the Organization’s health insurance coverage at no additional cost.

PRIMARY DUTIES

 

The INTERPOL Innovation Centre (IC) aims to support law enforcement agencies in understanding and preparing for the rapid changes affecting policing. The IC facilitates knowledge exchange on how technologies – enduring and emerging – impact law enforcement. By bringing together experts from a wide range of backgrounds, the IC connects law enforcement, academia, and the private sector, forging a robust knowledge community tackling technology-enabled threats and crimes.

 

Working with other INTERPOL units and external partners, the Innovation Centre has a flexible project team approach in researching, developing, and implementing dynamic and innovative solutions to policing issues. The Innovation Centre’s outputs include the following:

 

CALL FOR INTERNSHIP 

 

Knowledge exchange – Gathering, analyzing, and sharing information on potential implications of emerging technologies on law enforcement; identifying use-cases and best practices to aid law enforcement in tackling technology-enabled threats and crimes; policy – Developing, considering, and advocating interventions at the policy level to enhance law enforcement processes and value chains; facilitating the development of internationally endorsed policing standards and norms;New Technologies – Facilitating a coordinated approach for INTERPOL, member countries, and non-governmental partners to be collectively plugged in to the world of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), synthetic media, digital forensics, drones, 3D printing and scanning, immersive technologies (e.g., virtual reality/augmented reality), blockchain and virtual assets; understanding not only the threats posed by new technologies but also the opportunities they generate to enhance
policing efforts. 

 

Digital Forensics – Acquiring cutting-edge digital forensics capabilities to be at the forefront in terms of understanding and addressing operational demands resulting from the proliferation and usage of new technologies, and develop a pool of experts which can be tapped into to provide technical assistance and training to requesting INTERPOL member countries.

 

Throughout this internship the selected applicant will provide support to the Innovation Centre and its activities by supporting research activities such as:
▪ Drafting reports, studies, and methodologies – delivering analytical outputs and visual products
▪ Conducting research and analysis of open-source information
▪ Drafting correspondence in English
▪ Contributing to flagship products and services
▪ Performing any other duty assigned by the supervisor

REQUIREMENTS

All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements

 

Requirements
▪ Be a national of one of INTERPOL’s 196 member countries.
▪ Have attained the legal age in the country of nationality.

 

Training / Education required
▪ Be enrolled in, or have graduated from, a post-secondary accredited academic institution (at least Bachelor’s degree) within the past six months on the date of submission of their application in Criminology, International Relations, Security Studies, Police Technologies, or similar disciplines.

 

Languages
▪ Professional fluency in English is required.
▪ A good command of any other INTERPOL official language (Arabic, French or Spanish) would be an asset.

 

Technical skills
▪ Knowledge of new and emerging technologies would be beneficial.
▪ Basic knowledge of AI and digital forensics tools would be an asset.
▪ Strong drafting skills.
▪ Ability to present projects in a comprehensive, eye-catching format.
▪ Previous experience in research activities/projects.
▪ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
