INTRODUCTION OF THE POST
The Executive Directorate Partnerships and Planning (EDPP) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the strategic portfolio of the INTERPOL in a comprehensive and cross-organizational fashion. The strategic portfolio has two main facets: 1) Internal strategic development and affairs, which is led by the Planning and Development Directorate, and; 2) External strategic affairs, which is led by the Strategic Partnerships Directorate and the three INTERPOL Special Representation Offices to the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), and the United Nations (UN).
The incumbent is to support the office’s objective of further developing the cooperation between the UN and INTERPOL, in areas of mutual interest, to:
• Improve the international coordination of efforts to combat international criminal matters, including terrorism, organized crime, human trafficking and migrant smuggling, drug trafficking, environmental crime, and corruption.
• Obtain support and promote INTERPOL’s role in shaping global security, including through its four Global Programmes (Counter-Terrorism, Cybersecurity, Organized and Emerging Crime, and Financial Crime and Corruption), as well as the use of INTERPOL Policing Capabilities, as is called upon in various Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
• Represent and enhance the interests of law enforcement at international platforms.
These assignments should be accomplished through the monitoring and assessment of UN activities and initiatives, the participation in international fora, the negotiations of international legal frameworks, the development of new joint initiatives/projects, and the strengthening of cooperation with strategic partners.
At the crossroads of the UN and INTERPOL, the incumbent will be expected to liaise with the UN, its entities/agencies, and Permanent Missions to the UN, as well as the INTERPOL General Secretariat, Global Complex for Innovation, Regional Bureaus and other Special Representative Offices.
The nature of the work expected from the incumbent will be diverse and comprehensive. The incumbent will be expected to represent law enforcement in a diplomatic, political and international setting.
PRIMARY DUTIES
DUTY 1
Lead and develop relationships with strategic partners:
• Maintain close professional relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of INTERPOL/UN-related activities;
• Network and outreach with external stakeholders to obtain relevant information, documentation and advice, and to explore joint opportunities to facilitate INTERPOL/UN cooperation.
DUTY 2
Advisory role
• Research and interpret policies to adapt them to new needs;
• Organize and participate in meetings;
• May represent INTERPOL at external conferences, events and receptions;
• Prepare and deliver speeches and presentations;
• Draft reports of meetings and disseminate as appropriate;
• Contribute to the implementation of INTERPOL-led meetings and events.
DUTY 3
Identify UN activities and initiatives relevant to law enforcement and INTERPOL’s mandate.
• Follow meetings and events, as well as documents, reports and resolutions issued by the UN;
• Carry out studies and prepare summary reports as requested;
• Analyze and identify pertinent information and disseminate as appropriate;
• Draft and negotiate language into legal instruments, including UN resolutions and international conventions;
• Make strategic recommendations on the course of action to be taken based on facts, figures, precedents and good practices;
• Provide timely and sound advice, as well as independent analysis, evaluations, studies and reports on the progress and development of INTERPOL's cooperation with the UN and similar institutions.
DUTY 4
Perform other related duties as required by the hierarchy.
REQUIREMENTS
All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements.

Training/Education required
• Three-to-four years education at a University or other specialized higher education establishment (preferably in International Relations, Law, Public Policy or Police Management).
Experience required
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the area in question;
• Experience of working within an international environment would be highly desirable, either from employment in an international organization or from participating in international working groups, joint international projects, etc.;
• Diplomatic background is an asset;
• Law enforcement background is an asset;
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment is an asset.
Languages
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another INTERPOL Language (French, Spanish, or Arabic) would be an advantage.
