Tests/interviews in connection to this selection procedure will take place approximately 2/3 weeks after the deadline for applications. Applicants are kindly requested to plan their availability during this period accordingly, in case they are short-listed.
Selected candidates will be expected to report for duty approximately two to three months after receiving an offer of employment at the latest.
This selection exercise may be used to generate a reserve list of suitable candidates that may be used to address Organization's similar staffing needs in the future.
POST DESCRIPTION
Working under the supervision and responsibility of his/her superiors, the post holder will be responsible for handling routine operations at the External Security Post (ESP) during his/her working hours, and for surveillance from the Central Security Post (CSP) at nights and during weekends.
The post holder’s duties consist in ensuring the best possible security of the premises and persons during his/her shifts, by making optimum use of the technical systems installed in the External Security Post and in the Central Security Post.
He/she is also required to provide superiors with a certain amount of information.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES
DUTY 1 - Under the responsibility of his/her supervisors, the post holder’s duties consist in ensuring optimum security for the premises (General Secretariat and its annexes) and persons:
- Contribute to the external and internal surveillance of the sites by means of the new technical installations in the External Security Post.
- Ensure proper use of the access-control system and zone activation or deactivation according to established procedures.
- Make rounds at the General Secretariat and annexes in addition to the security and fire safety rounds (check the fire detection and alarm systems, fire safety equipment and access-controlled entries).
- Check the vehicles of INTERPOL staff, service providers and visitors.
- Use the X-ray scanning machine to check all visitors and staff at the security screening checkpoint.
- Escort VIPs visiting INTERPOL in a secure means of transport.
- Receive, examine, and grant or deny requests for entry onto the premises and enter them in the computer system.
- Check all identities through the SLTD database.
- Meet the needs of officials of the Organization and respond to various requests.
- Inform visitors and staff of new safety and security rules and procedures.
- Consult the e-mails sent to the entire Security team (newcomers, interns, and service providers).
- Forward the information needed to prepare the security passes and ensure that they are distributed to officials.
- Ensure the preparation of daily passes issued, upon request, to officials who have forgotten theirs.
- Ensure passes are prepared for meetings and conferences held at INTERPOL or abroad.
- Assign or activate passes and grant new access rights, or disable them urgently with the agreement, and at the request, of team leaders.
- Record the action taken in the computer register.
DUTY 2 - The post holder also takes immediate action in case of emergencies.
- Assist people in physical and/or moral distress either on site or at different locations hosting events organized by INTERPOL.
- Assume – alone – routine liaison with the command post at the local police headquarters and with the fire and ambulance services, or provide any emergency response, in the absence on site of a Team Leader, especially at night.
- Report any security incidents/risks to his/her superiors as quickly as possible, in order to take further action if instructed to do so.
- Respond to any technical emergency, such as water damage or fire by giving the on-call service providers the necessary information and take any action possible to alleviate the problem.
- Run small errands for different departments in the Organization.
DUTY 3 - The post holder performs his/her duties (in rotation with the other Security Guards) within the specific security team responsible for improving security services.
- Conduct evacuation drills, containment exercises and attack simulation drills.
- Identify areas where improvements could be made in terms of security.
- Help new security guards to assimilate the rules and procedures specific to security, so that they are independent and efficient in a timely manner.
- follow training to maintain/develop competences in terms of security.
- When in the front line of real danger and in the absence of superiors, demonstrate a degree of control and capacity to take decisions in different situations.
DUTY 4 - Perform any other duties as required by his/her supervisors.
The department operates 24/7. The post holder works in shifts and must be able to work night shifts, at the weekend and on public holidays, and may be required to work overtime at the request of his/her superiors.
QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, AND SKILLS
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Secondary School examination or equivalent-level qualification
- Additional training in IT (ongoing training included)
- Category B driving licence.
EXPERIENCE
- 2 years’ professional experience in security (Army, police or security)
LANGUAGES
- Excellent knowledge of French and good knowledge of English required.
