SUMMARY OF THE ASSIGNED DUTIES,
INCLUDING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
The incumbent will be part of the Executive Office and will work under the overall supervision of the Executive Director of Legal Affairs, or his/her designee.
He/she will provide paralegal support to attorneys handling external litigation, sensitive projects and other priorities handled by the Executive Office, including by assisting with research and document review, preparing files and presentations and performing any other tasks as defined by his/her hierarchy.
He/she must use professional judgment in performing the duties/tasks assigned to him/her; maintain good communication with his/her supervisor(s) and colleagues; and, given the sensitive nature of the work, perform his/her duties with great discretion.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES
The Paralegal is, according to organizational priorities and individual skill sets and experience, expected to carry out a combination of the following specialized duties under regular supervision of his/her hierarchy:
DUTY 1
Conducting research and document review in relation to external litigation, sensitive projects and other priorities handled by the Executive Office.
DUTY 2
Draft memoranda, reports and presentation materials relating to external litigation, sensitive projects and other priorities handled by the Executive Office.
DUTY 3
Contributing to the development of technological and technical tools for the purposes of enhancing research capabilities in relation to EDLA’s work.
DUTY 4
Assisting in the daily management of tasks of the Executive Director or his/her designee.
Performing any other related duties as may be required by the Executive Director or his/her designee.
QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
Education and qualification required:
- At least three or more years’ completed University-level education with a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree is required.
- Studies in international relations, law, or foreign languages are desired.
Experience required:
- At least three years’ experience working in a support legal role, in a private law firm, in-house legal department, government agency, or international organization.
- Experience with law enforcement agencies, international/regional organizations or research centers dealing with law enforcement and/or security work will be considered an asset.

- Fluency in English is required
- A good working knowledge of one of the other official working languages of the Organization (Arabic, French or Spanish) would be desirable.
