This selection exercise may be used to generate a reserve list of suitable candidates that may be used to address Organization's similar staffing needs in the future.

 

SUMMARY OF THE ASSIGNED DUTIES, INCLUDING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

 

 

Under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission or his/her representative, the post holder will monitor and finalize files assigned to him/her. He/she will also carry out research and draft legal documents.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES

 

 

DUTY 1/Mission 1 :

 

  • The post holder analyses files assigned to him/her, seeks solutions to problems encountered, and prepares legal opinions.

 

  • He/she studies individual requests assigned to him/her, and also work on other legal matters related to the Commission’s role.

 

  • He/she corresponds with IPSG and the NCBs for the proper administration of the files assigned to him/her.

 

  • He/she ‎prepares studies, minutes of meetings, analysis reports, draft rules and other documents intended for the Commission, the Organization’s bodies (General Secretariat, General Assembly and Executive Committee) or other entities outside the Organization, following specific instructions laid down by the Secretary of the Commission or his/her representative.

 

  • He/she carries out documentary research of a legal nature in a variety of areas for the information of the Secretary of the Commission, his/her representative or members of the Commission.

 

  • He/she ‎may be required to take part in meetings organized by the Commission or by INTERPOL, and speak at conferences and meetings.

 

DUTY 2/Mission 2:

  • He/she performs any other duties in accordance with instructions given by the Secretary of the Commission or his/her representative.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

Education and qualification required:

 

  • Higher education in law (Master's, LLM, LLD or equivalent).
  • Specialization in data protection or human rights desirable.

 

Experience required:

 

  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience (experience within a judicial body, international organization, international law firm, or in-house corporate counsel position is desirable) is required. Prior judicial clerkship or equivalent experience such as supporting or advising judges, tribunals, or other dispute resolution/adjudicative bodies, especially in the international arena preferred. 
  • Educational or professional experience in one or more of the following fields would be an asset : Data protection, Human rights litigation, Asylum/Refugee law, national criminal law, extradition, international arbitration.

 

Languages:

 

  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required
  • A working knowledge in any other INTERPOL working languages will be an additional asset.

 

Specific skills:

 

  • Excellent writing skills and proven ability to draft legal documents in English with precision and clarity . Good oral communication skills in English, including a demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely present issues in a clear, concise and organized manner. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze legal issues and extensive casefiles thoroughly, precisely, and efficiently. 
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research on a range of issues, including those involving both national and international law.
  • Ability to take an global view.
  • Ability to work with autonomy and little supervision where needed, and to work collegially with close collaboration where appropriate. Advanced organizational skills and ability to balance a variety of long-term casework, short-term emergency assignments, and routine daily tasks. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and in an international environment.
