* This position is financed by a third-party, external to the Organization with funding provided by the donor. Although there is a commitment from the donor, the appointment may be terminated prior to indicate official end date of project, should the external funding for this position no longer be available. This position also carries, in principle, no expectation of renewal. Any potential subsequent extension will be subject to the terms of the Organization’s Staff Manual, to satisfactory performance and to availability of funds.

 

Tests/interviews in connection to this selection procedure will take place approximately 2 weeks after the deadline for applications. Applicants are kindly requested to plan their availability during this period accordingly, in case they are short-listed.

 

​Selected candidates will be expected to report for duty approximately two to three months after receiving an offer of employment at the latest.

 

This selection exercise may be used to generate a reserve list of suitable candidates that may be used to address Organization's similar staffing needs in the future.

 

 

Under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Language Department, the incumbent translates into his/her mother tongue documents* drafted in the other official languages of the Organization, dealing with a broad range of subjects and relating to its day-to-day activities and to the decisions to be taken by its government bodies. 

 

* For the Arabic Department: translate texts drafted in Arabic into English or French.

 

Specificities of the Vacancy

Under the supervision and guidance of the Counsel/Coordinator, Notices and Diffusions Task Force, the Arabic Translator selected for this position will, at the request of NDTF, translate INTERPOL Silver Notices during the piloting phase, in self-revision mode and in consultation with other translators as required, Silver Notices into/from Arabic. The main content of Silver Notices relates to financial crimes, money laundering, and international asset recovery.

 

 

 

 

 

Primary duties

DUTY 1: Translation

  • Translate into/from Arabic, in self-revision mode and in consultation with other translators as required, texts related to a wide variety of subjects and varying greatly in terms of quality and style. In this context, produce stylistically, grammatically, and syntactically good translations that faithfully reflect the meaning or intention of the original, in accordance with the spirit and style of the language observing in-house usage and terminology.
  • May be required to work under pressure of tight deadlines, reconciling quality and speed, with a constant concern to deliver a sufficiently finished translation and to indicate any problems that may not have been solved by means of the research carried out.
  • Devote time and effort to developing his/her technical and terminological knowledge in the field covered by its Language Department.
  • Achieve and maintain full proficiency in the main IT and CAT tools and resources available to translators.

 

DUTY 2: Terminology

  • Gather information on the relevant professional, and technical areas, consulting specialists, reference works, technical dictionaries, terminology databases and other sources.  Enrich Language Service’s (LSE) terminology and document resources by pooling, in accordance with instructions or guidance received, relevant information gathered, and the results of research carried out personally; in particular, create and update records in the terminology database.
  • Contribute personally to the good flow of information and ideas within his/her department.

 

DUTY 3: Perform any other duties as may be required

 

 

 

Training / Education required

  • A university-level degree in translation, or in a relevant discipline complemented by translation capabilities.

 

Experience required

  • Three years’ experience as a translator, preferably in an international organization.
  • Solid experience of working with IT applications, in particular CAT tools.

 

Languages

  • Perfect command of Arabic as a mother tongue is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of two of the Organization’s other official languages: English and French.
  • Knowledge of the Organization’s fourth official language (Spanish) would be an asset.
