INTRODUCTION OF POST
Within the Executive Directorate Police Services (EDPS), the Global Outreach & Regional Support (GORS) Directorate is dedicated specifically to regional coordination and National central bureau (NCB) support.
Within the Regional Bureau (RB) Harare, the post holder will be responsible for all security aspects relating to the RB premises and personnel and will be responsible for controlling access to the RB building. The incumbent will also provide a variety of basic administrative and general support services to the RB, including replacing the official Driver as and when necessary.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Ensure maximum security for the RB premises by optimally utilizing the resources as his/her disposal.
- Ensure that only authorized personnel/visitors are allowed access into the RB Building.
- Under the supervision of the Head of Bureau, ensure that the necessary security measures are in place for meetings held at the RB premises.
- Perform additional administrative tasks as requested by the Head of Bureau.
DUTY 1
- In accordance with the Head of Bureau instruction and in conformity with security policy, verify all security installation and operating procedures.
- Ensure that all safety regulations are in conformity with national standards and alert the Head of Bureau immediately of any anomalies in this respect.
- Ensure that the security standards defined by the General Secretariat are applied at the RB premises.
- As directed by the Head of Bureau, carry out regular security inspections to ensure that all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Keep abreast of developments in security equipment and keep the Head of Bureau advised accordingly.
DUTY 2
- As directed by the Head of Bureau, carry out access control procedures in accordance with established rules.
- Provide quality security measures for visitors to the RB.
- Ensure that general security measures are observed by staff and inform the Head of Bureau of any failure to observe these measures, or any situation which could have serious consequences either for the officials or the RB.
- Provide personal security to visitors to the RB as and when necessary and accompany these visitors to specific destinations should it be deemed necessary.
DUTY 3
- Identify additional security measures or equipment required for meetings held at RB and advise the Head of Bureau accordingly.
- Under the responsibility of the Head of Bureau, establish the necessary contacts with the local administrative departments responsible for the external security of the RB premises in order to ensure the necessary co-ordination.
DUTY 4
- In addition to his/her security function, may replace the RB Driver during leave periods or absence due to illness.
- Be responsible for delivering official documents to local administrative/government offices. In this context, develop and maintain a local contact network with Governments departments to facilitate the execution of administrative procedure, and to obtain information and/or documentation as requested by the Head of Bureau.
- May be requested to carry out basic banking transactions by the Head of Bureau.
- Perform any other duties as requested by the hierarchy.
QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
Education and qualification required:
- A vocational diploma in Security is required.
- Driving qualification, to drive all categories of vehicles is necessary.
Experience required:
- At least 1 year experience in police/security function.
- Ability to use a telephone switchboard, photocopier, fax machine is required.
- Basic computer skills would be an advantage.
Languages:
- Working knowledge of English is required.
- Knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic would be an added advantage.
Abilities required:
- Ability to cope with sudden increases in workload, and high degree of availability (may be required to work overtime or outside normal working hours).
- Ability to work well in a team and react quickly to requests for assistance.
