* This position is financed by a third-party, external to the Organization with funding provided by the donor. ​Selected candidates will be expected to report for duty approximately two to three months after receiving an offer of employment at the latest.

 

This selection exercise may be used to generate a reserve list of suitable candidates that may be used to address Organization's similar staffing needs in the future.

 

 

 

INTRODUCTION OF THE POST

The post holder will be a member of INTERPOL’s Environmental Security Programme (ENS). ENS supports law enforcement agencies to tackle all types of environmental crime, such as wildlife crime, forestry crime, fisheries crime, pollution crime and illegal mining. In addition, environmental crime is also facilitated by many other crime types, including document fraud, corruption, and money laundering. The post holder will be required to facilitate law enforcement cooperation to tackle environmental crimes using INTERPOL’s information systems and increase the flow and exchange of information to enable the identification of international criminal networks operating in this crime area.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

DUTY 1

Increase the flow and exchange of information related to environmental crime through
INTERPOL’s information system.

DUTY 2

Support the organization of law enforcement meetings, including selection of participants, preparation of the agenda and meeting facilitation.

DUTY 3
Act as a point of contact for NCBs, other Law Enforcement Agencies and other partners from the civil society (including NGOs and private sector), regarding requests for information, operational/investigative assistance and international law enforcement cooperation.
DUTY 4
Draft and disseminate basic criminal intelligence products, such as cross-check reports, positive “hit” reports, crime threat or trend alerts.
DUTY 5
Develop and promote law enforcement best practice handbooks for investigators.
DUTY 6
Develop and deliver capacity building programmes aiming to enhance international law enforcement response to tackling environmental crimes.
DUTY 7 

Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

 

REQUIREMENTS

All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements.

Training/Education required

• University degree (preferably a combination of science and law);
• Law enforcement training at a senior level with a component on environmental crimes.

 

Experience required

• Minimum 5 years of professional work experience as an investigator in a law enforcement agency dealing with organized crime and/or environmental crime-related issues;
• Demonstrated professional experience in specialized criminal investigations, including regional expertise and operational police support;
• Competency and experience in evidence collection, chain of custody, interviewing techniques and preparing cases for prosecution purposes.

 

Languages

• Professional fluency in English and Spanish. Proficiency in a third official working language of the Organization would be an additional asset.

 

Specific skills required

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral (experience of public speaking and delivery of presentations);
• Advanced computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, databases).

 

 

Abilities required

• Utilise innovative technological solutions to support environmental crime investigations such as satellite imagery, artificial intelligence;
• Complete tasks accurately and efficiently with minimum supervision, working individually and as part of a team;
• Prepare structured written documents, including intelligence reports, and professional visual presentations;
• Deliver capacity building activities;
• Work well under pressure (especially to tight deadlines);
• Work additional hours when required.
